Day Eight - Los Arcos to Logrono - 28km but 10 by taxi!

I have a blister. It's only a little blister but it is under my little toe and is in a funny position so it is difficult to protect. My feet seem to have grown fatter by about 10 sizes and suddenly the walking shoes that had felt like slippers until now are squeezing my toes crazily. That is part of the reason we got the taxi.

Today it rained, hard wet rain, rain that makes mud slippery and sticky so that you end up 6 inches taller because it is stuck to the bottom of your shoe.
Today we had 28 km to walk and some of that was up and over a mountain like hill. The guide book gives warnings about how steep it is and how many people fall and break bits of their bodies.
Well we started off, plod plod plod in the rain, our trousers getting soggier and our shoes muddier. We made it to Torres del Rio, feeling very apprehensive about traversing the hill/mountain in the rain, when suddenly, there in front of us was a taxi with a very nice driver who said he would take us around the nasty obstacle and drop us off in Viana.
Well what could we do? Break bones or get a ride?

We still walked a long way ( about 19km) and our feet are still very tired. We have a rest day tomorrow, which will be nice. Right now we are waiting for a nice lady to come and massage our feet. Since we have a rest day tomorrow we will not write a blog entry.

For some reason our tiny room last night had an exit sign over the door.
When we switched the light off this is what we could see watching us all night!
It was so bright!

We don't know what this tree is but it smells amazing.

A close up of the leaves and flowers in case anyone else knows.

It had just stopped raining and we could
see the windmills through the mist in a valley

You can see Sagaster Bridge (archy thing) to the right of this photo.
It's famous and not medieval! Gary says it is a Santiago
Calatrava bridge and was very excited about it

The distant mountains are snow capped.
We could see them as we walked into Logrono.

  1. If it wasn't meant for you, the taxi wouldn't have been there!!! Enjoy tomorrow.
