Day Thirty-three - Palas de Rei to Melide - 15km

So we ate dinner last night with our Canadian friends, Carol and Steve. We spoke about our blog and emailed them a link to it. This morning we left at the same time as them and guess who has hiking poles with metal points?!!!!!!  hahahaha - they do have rubber covers too!

We only had a short walk today which was mainly on paths and quiet roads. Although it rained quite a lot during the night the paths were only damp and easy to walk on. We arrived in Melide at mid-day, found our hotel and then went to explore the town.

It isn't the prettiest town and it was busy today with a market. It didn't take long to look around and so we were able to partake of the local delicacy - octopus! The octopus are boiled in huge vats before having their legs chopped off and sprinkled with pimenton - a type of paprika. We shared a bowl - well actually Gary ate most of it. I don't think we will be having it again.

A carpet made of flowers in the small church in Palas de Rei
A new road marking - the cross of Santiago with the scallop shell.

Versions of these corn stores are everywhere.
The largest scallop shell so far!
Today's favourite house.
The medieval bridge into Furelos.

This is the oldest cross on the Camino and features a seated Jesus.
This lady was furiously snipping the legs off an octopus.
Pulpo anyone?

Of course there's a John Deere tractor parked outside!
Our 'interesting' shower curtain holder.
