Visiting Villafranca Del Bierzo

A few photos taken around Villafranca.
We had a good tour around the village this morning as someone had hidden 6 geocaches here so that was fun.
We had a lovely lunch in the garden of a small restaurant and will spend the rest of the day resting!
The village is in a valley with the river running through the middle and buildings and roads steeply rising up each side. The roads are cobbled and the houses are very old, some are maintained and some falling down. There are several huge churches and a 16th century castle - the whole town was developed in the 9th century as a place for pilgrims to rest on their way to Santiago.

Houses built into the steep  hillside.
The old bridge linking the two side of the town.

The castle in the distance.

Close-ups of the castle.

We have to climb all those steps because there is a geocache up there!
Read this carefully - there is a humourous typo!
The climb was worth it for the view!
