Day Seventeen - Fromista to Carrion de Los Condes - 21km

We had a great meal in Fromista with our friend, Pat. It was nice to eat some different local Spanish food and also fun to order from a menu that we couldn't understand!
While sitting in the town square before dinner I was watching some storks tend their nest - I zoomed in with my camera and managed to get this shot of their rather large babies!

This church was built in 1066! it's weird to think that other things were
happening around the world during the Battle of Hastings!

Some of those glasses contained water!
Today was really the first day we walked in any heat. While it was great to feel warm that warmth quickly grew very warm indeed! We had to keep stopping for water and made sure we sat in the shade and had cold drinks in the villages we passed.
We are on the meseta and so we didn't have to climb many hills, instead the fields of corn stretched into the distance. For most of the day we were away from the road but the last 6 km were right next to it. For some reason the government of Leon decided that pilgrims would prefer to walk on a nice flat surface next to the highway rather than quiet little lanes!

A new day , a new town!

wild roses

A welcome cold drink stop.
This old man was happy watching the river.

The description in the guide book read 'a nice shady 6km walk by the river'.

A beautiful house/church combo.
and while we were walking by this flock of sheep appeared.

Villalcazar de Sirga and a Knights Templar church.

Gary told me to use flash and then I got told off by the man in charge for using flash.
He wasn't happy in his work and wanted to go for his siesta!

The local council offices.

Gary finds a new friend.

Counting down the kilometres.
Is that a mirage or are we nearly there?

Another of Gary's 'jokes'.
The town is called Carrion......
Unfortunately Sid James was nowhere to be seen!
